The "Sifonki" or "Chiffon" vase was designed in 1947 by Gunnel Nyman for the Nuutajarvi Notsjo glassworks of Finland. Design code GN35. Here, the free-blown thick glass mass was imbued with a fine haze of smoke, blown over the hot glass before the final clear layer was added and the form twisted into shape. This example has a light grey tinge and retains its original foil label. Early pieces are acid pen signed, as this one, although these wear away easily and are difficult to read.
